Poetic Justice


I was reading over the website for the children's home Emma is visiting and discovered that Monday-Friday they must be up by 5:30 am and lights out by 9pm. This is hysterically funny since the hours Emma would like to keep are pretty much the same, only she likes to sleep during those hours. I do not think she will complain much about getting up at 8:15 too much anymore. In the infamous words of Emma “What now!”

The Bible is not a self-help book

My dear sweet friend has invited me and my children to come once a week and study I Peter via video web cast. It is a church in Washington State, Mars Hill Church. www.marshillchurch.org. Anyway, he was speaking of the Old Testament being about Jesus and the New Testament being about Jesus. He reviewed many prophesies fulfilled and it was beautiful to be reminded of all that Jesus has done and will do. It is all about Jesus! Out of all the things he said the thing that struck me the most was that the Bible is not a self-help book. Big deal you say. Think about this. How many books in the Christian book store are self-help books. If you do this, you will get this result. If you have this problem read, pray and meditate on this verse, chapter, principle etc. The Bible is not some rule book. Follow the rules and you will get xyz. If you have this problem and follow this formula your results will be..... That is not to say that there is not instruction and warning and tho...

Freedom

As our American freedoms, according to the constitution, are being run over, altered, and outright dismissed one must remember these are not the freedoms God has promised us. I sometimes despair as I watch our freedoms being eroded little by little and sometimes in big chunks. I watch our media (television, social and advertising) spreading propaganda on all sides and I am disheartened. America is founded on freedom and our emotions and beliefs get tangled up in this freedom. Our national anthem has brought tears to my eyes on the idealistic image of a nation that loves and serves God. However, America is made up of imperfect people who sin and need to repent. The Word of God doesn't teach community repentance, the Word doesn't teach national repentance, and the Word doesn't teach American freedom. The word teaches individual repentance and surrender to the King of Kings and Lord of Lord, the triune God, THE Creator of heaven and earth. Isaiah 9:6 says "For a child...
